About
Hi! I'm Kathryn Paul. I’m a self-taught watercolor artist living in Longmont, Colorado. I have no formal training outside of a few continuing education courses in drawing and painting. Several years ago, a friend introduced me to watercolor and I fell in love. The funny thing about that was I had absolutely no desire to paint in watercolor. But I found it to be magical! And I was hooked.
The subjects I choose are landscapes because I am in awe of the beauty of the natural world. Being in nature is a spiritual experience for me. I believe there is healing in nature. It's where we find rest for our spirit, and rejuvenation to go back to the world. I want my paintings to be a peaceful refuge and a reminder of how nature heals the soul.
I use a realistic/impressionistic style because I like the way I can play with color and the way shapes are representational without being exact. The viewer can use their imagination to fill in any information which leads to a more personal connection. I want my paintings to elicit feelings of joy and tranquility using the beauty of nature. It's a way to slow down and to appreciate the gift of life.
